There are some very beautiful temples and famous tourists attractions in and around Pune. I have already covered 2 of those in earlier posts (Bhuleshwar and Tulapur). I will be covering couple more temples in this and upcoming posts. These temples have recently gained popularity amongst Punekars.
One is the Ramdara Temple in Loni Kalbhor and the other one is B.A.P.S Swaminarayan temple in Narhe Katraj. We travelled the temples separately so I have covered Swaminarayan mandir in next blog post.
Ramdara Temple
We had planned to visit this temple on onset of monsoon, as it is surrounded by hills and we wanted to be there when those are covered with greenery.
About the Temple
Ramdara is an ancient temple which was rebuilt in 1970 by Dhundhi Baba. Its mainly dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati but is also famous for the Ram, Sita and Laxman idols and hence the name "Ram"dara.
The temple welcomes you with beautiful arches and some huge old trees.
Entrance to temple |
The temple shikara is not visible until you reach the inner complex area due to the dense cover of trees around. Kids can enjoy watching some colorful fishes in the pond, also its home to wide variety of birds if you are a keen bird watcher.

The surrounding of temple and complex is kept clean and well maintained by the local villagers. There is ample space for two and four wheeler parking. Eateries and refreshments stalls are available outside the mandir complex.
Inside Temple
At the entrance you will find Ganesh idol and then few steps downward leading towards the main sanctum.
The sanctum has a Shiv linga, idols of Ram, Sita, Laxman, Dattatreya. In front of Shiv linga sits a huge Nandi, there are many sculptures dedicated to saints of Maharashtra and India like Sant Gyaneshwar, Vivekananda etc.
How to reach Ramdara Temple:
The temple is 25kms from Pune and 18km from Hadapsar. There are multiple ways to reach Ramdara, depends on where you are traveling from. We traveled from Wagholi, there were 2 routes available
- Wagholi - Hadapsar - Loni Kalbhor - Ramdara
- Wagholi - Ahwalwadi - Loni Kalbhor - Ramdara - this one is nearest and avoids the Hadapsar traffic.
Ramdara mandir is located 7km from Loni Kalbhor, so we need to take right turn into Loni Kalbhor village from the Pune Solapur highway and head towards the temple.
There are no public transport available direct to the temple, so better to have some private transport arrangements.
The road conditions from Loni Kalbhor to Ramdara temple is not so good.
Ramdara Temple timing
Temple open and close timing is 7am to 5pm.
The temple management is quite strict with the timings, as soon as it is 4.30pm they start calling people out of the temple complex, so better plan according to the timing.
Best Time to visit
Although its best time anytime to visit any temple but if you are looking to enjoy the lush green nature, June to Dec is best time.
We spent around 2 hours there, had some wonderful Kanda bhajji, sweet corn and left back for home.
Ramdara is a peaceful and serene temple away from the hustle bustle of the city, so make sure you have this location in your #TOGO list.
Travelling and learning are continuous phenomenon, never stop doing both.
