Manali Adventures and Kasol(except Kheerganga 😔)
Day 5: Snow activities
We had kept this day only for snow activities as we all were excited to see snow for the first time and did not want to hurry away the time.
Gulaba :
➤ This is alternate route to Rohtang pass 27km from Manali, which we had to stop by as Rohtang pass road was already closed.
There are many shops on the way where you can rent the dress, shoes etc.
Generally it costs 250/- per person for dress which also includes the shoes. The charges are set by the government.
With all of us excited, we had imagined the point to be completely snow caped but to our disappointment there was not much snow.
Solang Valley:
Famous for its rope-way and as snow point, where again we didn't find much snow. But it does have a magnificent view from top.

Day 6: River Rafting and Kasol
It was time for next destination Kasol but not before we did rafting in Manali. We were a bit skeptical about doing this not because of fear of river but of the cold water 😜
Rafting was always on my TODO adventure excursion list, so it had to be done and finally we were in the cold icy water. The ride was 7km long which took almost 35-40 min and it was a thrilling and shivering experience.

Naggar Castle:
This castle on route between Kullu and Manali, while heading Kasol, is a must visit. This castle has very interesting history behind it.
Naggar castle |
It was built in 16th century by Raja Sidhi Singh, the structure stands only on stones and wood without use of mud or any adhesive material. But the strange history to it is that Raja sold such a magnificent castle to a British Assistant Commissioner just because he had fallen in love of his gun.
Castle converted into hotel rooms |
By the way the castle has now being converted into a hotel and is available for public booking as well.
KASOL
After traveling for 5 hours, we reached Kasol, a hamlet which is on bank of Parvati river. It has now become a trekkers destination as well because of wide range of options for treks(short to long).Kheerganga trek one of the famous treks amongst trekkers and tourists.
As soon as you enter Kasol, you would understand why there are so many hippies around.Although it is great destination for hiking,it is famous for its underground psytrance culture and an easy access to some homegrown magical herbs.
It was a very short stay at Kasol, as we had intended to visit the Manikaran and kheer ganga.
Manikaran
This is a sacred pilgrimage center for Sikhs and Hindus. Its a combination of Gurudwara and a Shiva temple because of the belief attached with it.
There are multiple hot springs near the temple which are considered sacred. It is very interesting as the hot springs are where the glacier water flows.Langar, which is served 24hrs for whole year in Gurudwara is cooked only on the boiling spring water.

Kasol heights resort |
Kasol Heights
We had stayed at Kasol Heights which was next to a Hydro plant located 2 km from Manikaran.
The stay was pretty good and also was the food or maybe it was just us who were hungry. We had thought it was cold in Manali but we were literally finding the 4 blankets less in here, as it was on bank of river.
Morning at Kasol heights |
Although it was a good stay, I would recommend to travel in group if you are interested to stay here. Also, not that couples would not enjoy but stay in Kasol as a whole would be more fun surely for group travelers/trekkers.
Kasol marked the end of our 7 day long trip.We were returning back to Mumbai from Chandigarh, so while getting to Chandigarh, we had to make stop for Makke di Roti and Sarso da saag with loads of ghee and it was mind-blowing.
One very important part of our trip was having a friendly and knowledgeable driver, Bittu. He acted as guide throughout our journey and was very friendly.I would surely recommend him, if you are traveling to any part of north/north-east.
Though only a small part of Himachal was covered, it does give you a taste of why it is called "God Land" (DevBhoomi). The lush green cedar covered humongous mountains with serene rivers flowing by side. Not just mountains but even the people and their way of living is beautiful and simple.
With a hope that we absorbed some part of it with us, we returned back to our real world where there are huge buildings and cars flowing on road.
But as rightly said:"WE TRAVEL NOT TO ESCAPE LIFE, BUT FOR LIFE NOT TO ESCAPE US"
