There are few locations in India which are meant for newly wed couples and Ooty is surely one of them.I was a bit skeptical about this earlier but after surfing the hotel arrangements and tourist places, it came to me that maybe for a short honeymoon this should be worth it.Having done train booking from Belgaum to Mysore, we had to further take bus from there to our destination.
Day1
We reached Mysore early morning at 4:00am and our bus was scheduled at 6 am, so had to spend 2 hours at Mysore KSRTC bus stand. So not sure what to do 2 hours we spent walking around the stand sitting most of time, checking each bus if it was for Ooty. Finally our bus had arrived and fortunately because of advance booking we got seats else it filled in quite fast. One very good thing about KSRTC is that they are very organized and you receive message for arrival of bus.You have option of traveling by Volvo bus or government bus, but then volvo buses would need much more advance booking and these are mostly fortnight as the routes to Ooty are closed at night after 12am.The route goes through Bandipur forest sanctuary, so if you want to have a view of few wild animals (deer, elephants) the best timing would be to go for early morning bus.But those who feel nauseatic then you would be sleeping whole time as my wife did :p I enjoy traveling by road, so I couldn't have asked for much better than traveling through the forest reserve and the Ghats. Our hotel was on the way before actual Ooty bus stand approximately 20km in a perfect location that you could ask for. After having a look at our Hotel(United-21 Paradise), there was one expression on our face, Wow!!
It was a 3 days trip so we planned to rest for the day in hotel and to have a candle light dinner ;)
Day 2:
After having a days rest we sought to wander the tourist spots around Ooty, so we had asked for a private car to our hotel manager to cover whole day.1. Pykara Lake
This was very close to our hotel location just 5km away.It was a beautiful, serene and very clean lake. You can choose for boating either speed boat, paddle boat or normal boat to cover whole lake.We decided to take normal boat with some other tourist as well. After a pleasant 1 hour round trip of lake we headed for next spots.2.Shooting Point
This is not gun shooting but film shooting point. They say Raja Hindustani was shot at this place point, its quite open ground with options for Horse riding, as it is huge area that you can roam.We chose to cover just few main spots to have our photo-shoot.3.Pine forest
We dint stop much at this one, just did a few clicks but it was good site with all pine trees aligned naturally as if someone has planted them purposely.4.Dodabetta Peak
This is highest peak of Ooty and you can view the border of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka from this point. It was cool here with wind making it much more cold but we enjoyed the scenery and fresh air. This is another mandatory place where the guides would take you, to have a look at how the tea is made. You also can buy variety of tea from the factory at a reasonable rate.A quick stop at this and we decided to return back to hotel. On our way we made another quick stop at chocolate factory and Wax museum as well.
Day 3:
There was a Tea trek in our hotel vicinity, so we decided to take early morning trek.Through the tea plantations, it was adventurous one, with nobody around. You can have a view of all area from above, just beautiful site. After our trek,as it was last day of our trip, so we thought we should just roam around ourselves by local transport to Ooty.So we went by bus to Ooty, main motive was to find ATM for some cash.I hadn't thought it would be difficult to find ATM with cash but we spent almost 2 hours searching for it and finally found one. After this we roam around the market. One thing we couldn't do was Ooty Toy Train as we had to stand in queue for the tickets. We had our lunch at Ammas's kitchen , the food was quite authentic and tasty. We made a return again by KSRTC bus to our hotel stop and walked till hotel clicking some random pics.
Finally it was time to say adieu to our Hotel and Ooty in evening, as we had to catch bus from Ooty bus stand to Mysore.
As a newly wed couple, you would expect a honeymoon location to be peaceful and romantic.I would say Ooty was just the place you would ask for serene, beautiful, peaceful and romantic.
